In
2009, frustrated by the ineffectiveness of traditional
advertising to reach his small business local customers,
one of Frugaldoo's founders had a simple idea: an effective
way for hometown merchants to quickly reach their shoppers,
while giving shoppers a simple way to find great local
deals.
Newspaper, radio, direct mail, yellow page and
TV advertising always seemed to be a 'pay & pray' proposition
with high up-front rates and a hope that the advertising
would generate increased foot traffic. Plus there was
also an ever-present disconnect between merchant and
shopper, with many shoppers still unaware of advertised
promotions and discounts. The need for Frugaldoo was
apparent and a business idea was launched.
A team was
assembled consisting of two ex-Dow Jones and Company
executives and a graphic artist to bring Frugaldoo to
life.
President Patrick Carr is an accomplished business
executive with a love for technology. His cross-functional,
multi-industry experience is evident in his ability
to maximize people, process and technology to achieve
business results. Pat's distinguished career includes
establishing and running a profitable hometown retail
business, and he spent 15 years as the Information Technology
Director for Ottaway Newspapers, Inc., a Dow Jones and
Company subsidiary. Operating a successful hometown
retail business is a tough task; Pat was successful
because he understood his market, provided exceptional
customer service and actively promoted his business
and brand. Pat's advertising background with Ottaway
Newspapers, coupled with his understanding and use of
advertising as a retail business owner provide Frugaldoo
with a veteran executive with industry expertise, technical
skills and entrepreneurial vision.
Bill Zurilla, executive
vice president, is a senior financial executive with
a distinguished career managing a broad portfolio of
companies during periods of rapid and volatile market
change caused by disruptive technologies. This experience
encompasses a wide range of organizations from large
public to small private businesses and startups. Bill
is highly experienced in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures
and overall business portfolio management, as well as
a deal originator in the private equity industry. His
expertise includes optimizing organization asset value
through devising restructuring programs that produced
operating margins amongst the highest in the respective
organization's industry. Bill was indirectly responsible
for all phases of deal development at ONI, a portfolio
of businesses for Dow Jones and Company and has specialized
knowledge for finding acquisition opportunities for
retained clients - private equity firms and strategic
buyers. Mr. Zurilla has over thirty years of industry
knowledge in a full range of media companies, including
print, electronic, and other venues. He also has a broad
knowledge base in the manufacturing, consumer branded
products and business services.
Randy Rasmussen, marketing
and arts director, owned and operated JustAdHere a digital
signage advertising company, which Frugaldoo acquired
and rebranded FrugalVu. Randy is a senior marketing
executive whose skill set also includes hands-on graphic
arts production. Randy's background includes merchandising
management and graphic arts design. Some of his work
can be seen on the album covers and merchandising material
for AC/DC, The Beatles, Blues Traveler, Moody Blues
and Grateful Dead. Randy has also designed animation
and videos for Nickelodeon, Sony and Jumbo Pictures.
